Wegener Park natural area

Wegener Park contains about 3.4 acres of natural areas. Also referred to as Genessee Park, it is a small wilderness, containing trees, ivy, and phragmites (Phragmites australis) that recolonized abandoned farmland. Phragmites grows to a height of approximately 12 feet. topped with reddish-silver tufted flowers and often out-competes other marsh plants. The reed’s spiked flowers bloom from August to September, usually in standing brackish or fresh water as one finds in a marsh. A variety of local flora and fauna flourish in the largely undisturbed ecosystem of Wegener natural area.
