City Island Wetlands

Nestled between sport fields and open water in City Island are 1.5 acres of embayments with thriving salt marsh dominated by smooth cordgrass (Sporobolus alterniflorus), rock boulders, and mudflats that become tidally submerged twice daily. Visitors and students at the adjacent P.S. 175 can observe herons, horseshoe crabs, fiddler crabs, and ribbed mussel beds.
