Clearview Park natural area

This 6-acre natural area is located just south of the Clearview Golf Course alongside the Clearview Expressway. As part of NYC Parks' forest restoration efforts, native trees and shrubs were planted in 2011 and 2012. These young trees have since grown into a thriving early successional forest, including species such as pin oak (Quercus palustris), white pine (Pinus strobus), staghorn sumac (Rhus typhina), and shrubs such as elderberry (Sambucus spp.) and serviceberry (Amelanchier spp.). These species supplement and add diversity to previously established stands surrounding the park, which include large eastern cottonwoods (Populus deltoides) and black locusts (Robinia pseudoacacia).
