Arlington Marsh natural area

Newark Bay to Richmond Ter.

details

This site is not generally accessible to the public.

This 70.5-acre natural area consists of maritime forest, salt marsh, and coastal shoreline. The site and surrounding area have a history of heavy industrial and manufacturing uses dating back to the early 1900s. Scattered concrete, brick, and metal debris and other structures from former industrial activities are still present. Since the end of the industrial activities in 1931, the site has naturalized. The property was purchased by the City of New York in 1974. In 2017, Arlington Marsh was transferred to NYC Parks.

In 2019, in partnership with the New York State Department of State, NYC Parks developed a master plan for Arlington Marsh and the adjacent natural area Mariners Marsh Park.
