Last Chance Pond Park details

This site is not generally accessible to the public.

Last Chance Pond is a 4-acre park in the New Creek Watershed. The park is dominated by an open water pond with emergent freshwater wetlands flanking the pond's edge. These freshwater wetlands contain species such as arrow arum (Peltandra virginica) and cattails (Typha spp). The surrounding floodplain forest and forested freshwater wetland is home to silver maples (Acer saccharinum), blueberries (Vaccinium spp), and skunk cabbage (Symplocarpus foetidus).

In 2022, the New York City Department of Environmental Protection reconstructed the wetlands in the park to contribute to a "Bluebelt" system that slows and detains stormwater from upstream in the watershed to help manage flooding in the neighborhood.
