Chelsea Recreation Center
Membership Extension
During the summer, we have had to temporarily reduce operating hours at several of our indoor pools. We understand the impact this has had on our members, and we want to ensure that our members have as much pool time and access as possible.
That said, we are offering qualifying individuals the opportunity to extend their membership by three months for free. To be eligible to receive the extension, you must meet all three qualification criteria:
- Have obtained your membership prior to June 26, 2025, and were an active member on that date.
- Be a paying member who possesses either an adult indoor pool membership or a senior, people with disabilities, or veteran membership.
- Have visited a qualifying indoor pool site between January 1, 2025 to June 26, 2025.
- St. John’s Recreation Center
- Chelsea Recreation Center
- Constance Baker Motley Recreation Center
- Gertrude Ederle Recreation Center
- Flushing Meadows Corona Park Aquatics Center
If you believe you meet these qualifications, you may submit a request by completing the online form. The deadline to opt-in for the extension is November 16, 2025.

Goalball Open AccessGymnasium Goalball is a team sport designed specifically for athletes with a vision impairment. Participants try to throw a ball that has bells embedded in it into the opponents' goal. The ball is thrown by hand and never kicked. Using ear-hand coordination, originating as a rehabilitation exercise, the sport has no able-bodied equivalent. Able-bodied athletes are also blindfolded when playing this sport. Chelsea: Adult Artistic SwimmingIndoor Pool Become an Artistic Swimmer. Challenge yourself to combine elements of ballet and gymnastics in the water. An instructor will lead participants to create and perform an artistic solo or team routine learning choreographed movements in the water synchronized with a musical accompaniment. Learn competitive swimming strokes, goal setting, sportsmanship, teamwork principals, and improve your fitness. Have fun and be part of a team and compete against other Parks Swim Teams citywide. Intensity: Advanced / High Ages: Child, Teen, Registration is closed.

Chelsea: Parent and Tot Learn to SwimIndoor Pool The Learn to Swim program puts the fun in fundamentals and teaches basic swimming and safety skills. Tots ages 4 to 5 years old gain basic swimming skills. An Adult is required to get in the water with the Tot and learn how to stay safe in and around the water. Recreation Center Membership Required. Intensity: Beginner / Low Ages: Preschool Registration is closed.

Chelsea: Adult Learn to SwimIndoor Pool The Adult Learn to Swim program teaches adults ages 18+ basic swimming and safety skills. The program offers adults the opportunity to become comfortable in the water and prepare to learn to swim. Adults gain basic swimming skills and learn how to stay safe in and around the water. Lottery based registration. Recreation Membership Required. Intensity: Beginner / Low Ages: Adult, Senior Registration is closed.
