Broad Channel Wetlands
Broad Channel Wetlands details
This site is not generally accessible to the public.

The Broad Channel Wetlands are a peninsula of tidal wetlands south of the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge on the West side of Broad Channel, the only residential community in the middle of Jamaica Bay. These wetlands are part of the larger salt marsh complex of the Jamaica Bay Marsh Islands and are adjacent to the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge. Salt marshes of cordgrass (Sporobolus alterniflorus) and salt meadow grass (Sporobolus pumilus) support a rich population of herons, osprey (Pandion haliaetus), and other waterfowl.
