Festival of Lights: Winter Solstice

Celebrate when our hemisphere tilts furthest away from the sun, making the shortest day of the year. Dress warm in layers. Bring binoculars and a telescope if you have them to view the Geminid and Ursid meteor showers, and the conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn.

Paerdegat Basin Park
Ecology Park is a five acre site set within Paerdegat Basin Park. The goal of the park is to promote habitat restoration and ecological improvement, highlighting fourteen native plant community types that exist or once existed in New York City.

Ecology Park is only open at certain times of year when Parks staff are present in order to protect this unique landscape. Want to visit? Check out our Stewardship Projects page for restoration, planting, and educational events.
Rockaway Beach and Boardwalk
The following beach sections are open for swimming:
Beach 15 - Beach 18, Beach 32 - Beach 34, Beach 44, Beach 57, Beach 59, Beach 77 - Beach 78, Beach 83 - Beach 86, Beach 94 - Beach 97, Beach 103 - Beach 106, Beach 115 - Beach 120, and Beach 135 - Beach 139.
All other sections are closed to swimming.
