Jones Woods natural area

Michaelis-Bayswater Park is a 40-acre park located on the southeastern shoreline of Jamaica Bay at the southerly tip of Norton Basin in Far Rockaway, Queens. It includes a coastal forest with trails that have views along the shoreline as well as approximately 20 acres of intertidal marsh, and mudflat.
In 2019, the Natural Areas Conservancy (NAC) and NYC Parks completed a salt marsh restoration project in the southern section of the park where fill and debris had degraded the shoreline. The project restored 1.75 acres of low and high salt marsh and upland with funding from the Jamaica Bay-Rockaway Parks Conservancy. The wetland and basin support the diverse array of birds and aquatic species found throughout Jamaica Bay, including herons, horseshoe crabs, bunker, and even the occasional dolphin.
