NYC PARKS CELEBRATES UPCOMING RECONSTRUCTION OF THREE COMMUNITY GREENSPACES IN QUEENS

Major revitalization projects set to transform Josephine Caminiti Playground, Park of the Americas basketball courts, and American Triangle

Commissioner Rodriguez-Rosa and Councilmember Moya highlight continued investment in Queens communities

NYC Parks Commissioner Iris Rodriguez-Rosa joined City Councilmember Francisco Moya to celebrate the upcoming reconstruction of three cherished neighborhood parks. The celebration highlighted the major capital improvements coming to Josephine Caminiti Playground, the basketball courts at Park of the Americas, and American Triangle Park.

"These three reconstruction projects represent our ongoing commitment to providing world-class recreational facilities for the families of Queens," said NYC Department of Parks and Recreation Commissioner Iris Rodriguez-Rosa. "Thanks to the dedicated advocacy of Councilmember Francisco Moya and the support of the City Council, we're bringing comprehensive improvements to these well-loved community spaces. From modern playground equipment at Josephine Caminiti to upgraded basketball courts at Park of the Americas and the complete reconstruction of American Triangle, these projects will serve generations of Queens residents."

“Today marks a proud moment for our community as we break ground on transformative upgrades to Park of the Americas, Josephine Caminiti Playground, and the American Triangle,” said District 21 Councilmember Francisco Moya. “This $8.75 million investment is about more than just parks — it’s about building safer, greener, more vibrant spaces where families can gather, children can play, and neighbors can connect. These improvements are a direct result of listening to our community and delivering on our promise to put people first. These projects piggyback off the $2.7 million dollar renovation of William F Moore Park already underway in Council District 21. I’m excited to see these projects come to life and continue working to uplift every corner of our district.”

The $6.9 million Josephine Caminiti Playground reconstruction, currently in the early stages of construction, will completely transform the beloved playground and community hub. The project is expected to be completed by July 2026 and will add modern playground equipment, updated safety surfacing, and enhanced accessibility features. Increased seating areas and spray showers will ensure that this playground serves as a place of relaxation and fun for Queens residents regardless of age.

At Park of the Americas, the $7.3 million basketball court reconstruction project is actively underway with construction expected to finish in May of 2026. The project will reconstruct the basketball court and adjacent entrance, providing the community with state-of-the-art recreational facilities. As part of the project, the area will receive repaved pathways and sidewalks, increased seating, and expanded tree pits to maintain the health of the overhead tree canopy.

American Triangle, a small greenspace located at 102nd Street, 41st Avenue, and National Street, is undergoing a $1.1 million reconstruction. This comprehensive reconstruction project began in March 2025 and will completely revitalize the park as a gathering space, providing new plantings, path paving, and a new outdoor electrical outlet to accommodate the annual holiday tree lighting.

All three projects are funded through City Council allocations, demonstrating the continued partnership between NYC Parks and local elected officials to invest in Queens communities.
