10/4 City of Forest Day Seed Collection with PECaN at Forest Park

Meeting Location: Meet at the "My Buddy Statue" at the intersection of Myrtle Avenue and Park Lane S

Description: Join staff from the NYC Parks Plant Ecology Center and Nursery (PECaN) on a guided hike and tree seed collection at Queens’ Forest Park! Learn about our Seed Program and collection process, as well as the natural history of the park, and then set out on a hike to collect some seed. The focus will be on oak and hickory tree species, but we are always on the lookout for other collectible species while in the field. The seed collected here will fuel PECaN’s tree production, which will be distributed among NYC Parks and public spaces. As this event will involve walking through Forest Park’s hilly terrain and potentially going off trail, please wear appropriate clothing and bring your own drinking water.
