Meeting Location: PECaN Parking Lot - 3808 Victory Blvd

Description: Join the Plant Ecology Center and Nursery staff for a tour of the facility and a day of plant care and grounds maintenance. You will get a tour of the facility and a behind-the-scenes look at native plant and seed production in New York City. Then work alongside our staff doing some hands-on tree production and tree care. Then, join us for a hands-on lesson about the process of seed cleaning, including cleaning techniques and equipment, along with discussion of seed collection, drying, testing, and storage practices. Participants will have time for hands-on cleaning of both wild-collected and farmed seed lots, which fuels all our production at PECaN. Please reach out in advance if you would like to bring your own seed for cleaning. Come dressed in warm clothing, long-sleeved shirts and pants, and sturdy footwear. Gloves and necessary tools will be provided.
