Nurturing Our Garden Groups: A Community Conversation
Tuesday, January 13, 2026
6:00 p.m.–8:00 p.m.
Building a successful community garden goes beyond planting and tending crops—it requires strong, cohesive group dynamics. In this course, designed for both new and experienced garden leaders, we’ll dive into the fundamentals of group development tailored to the needs of GreenThumb Gardens. It’s a space where everyone is welcomed and accepted regardless of their experience level. You’ll learn strategies for organizing a yearly agenda, setting up effective regular meetings, and establishing clear roles and responsibilities.
We’ll also explore establishing rules that foster a respectful, productive atmosphere and discuss ways to host engaging events that attract and unite community members. By focusing on the New York Metropolitan area’s unique community and public land stewardship challenges, this course empowers leaders to strengthen their gardens and deepen their community connections. Whether you’re a novice or a seasoned gardener, join us to cultivate your garden and the relationships that help it thrive!
NYC Parks GreenThumb hosts this event. We are proud to be the nation’s most extensive urban community gardening program, sustaining over 550 gardens throughout New York City.
