Pollinator Power: Attracting Bees, Butterflies, and Hummingbirds to your Garden —Plus Native Plant Giveaway!
Saturday, September 20, 2025
11:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m.
Did you know there are over 20,000 species of bees worldwide, with more than 230 species right here in New York City? Without pollinators, wild plant communities would fail, along with the animals—and humans—that depend on them for food. In fact, one out of every three bites of food we eat depends on the pollination services of bees. The interactions between pollinators and flowering plants are fascinating and a joy to observe in our gardens. During this workshop, we’ll explore the relationships pollinators have with trees, wildflowers, and food crops, and learn how to create the conditions they need to thrive in our gardens. Pollinator enthusiasts of all ages are welcome! Participants will also be able to take home native plants to create or enhance pollinator habitats in their own gardens.
NYC Parks GreenThumb hosts this event. We are proud to be the nation’s most extensive urban community gardening program, sustaining over 550 gardens throughout New York City. With GreenThumb’s support, community gardens are centers of environmental justice, ensuring that our city is fairer, safer, and greener for all. GreenThumb’s events are free and open to the public.
