Seed Saving for Beginners: Grow, Gather, and Share

Saturday, October 11, 2025

11:00 a.m.1:00 p.m.

Seed saving is a powerful way to understand your connection with your garden, grow plants that are adapted to your space and climate, and share knowledge with your community. In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn the basics of how to save seeds from vegetables, herbs, and flowers. We will cover which plants are easiest to start with indoors, as well as how to collect, clean, and store seeds properly for future planting. No prior experience is needed—just curiosity and a love for growing! Participants will take home seeds to start their seed-saving journey.

NYC Parks GreenThumb hosts this event. We are proud to be the nation’s most extensive urban community gardening program, sustaining over 550 gardens throughout New York City. With GreenThumb’s support, community gardens are centers of environmental justice, ensuring that our city is fairer, safer, and greener for all. GreenThumb’s events are free and open to the public.
