Volunteer Workday: Her-King Alagantic Community Garden
Monday, January 19, 2026
11:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.
Join the Her–King Alagantic Community Garden group and GreenThumb staff for a volunteer day on the 2026 Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service! We will be working together to build new metal beds for the upcoming season and help upkeep the garden as a vital public green space. If you would like to celebrate the holiday giving back to the community and learn about how you can become a community gardener, please join us!
Beginners are welcome! No prior experience necessary. Please wear comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing and bring water and snacks. Note: Some tasks may involve lifting heavy materials and extended periods of bending, squatting, and moving. Weather date if event is postponed - January 24th from 11AM – 3PM.
For information about group volunteering, please contact the GreenThumb Volunteer Program at gt.volunteer@parks.nyc.gov.
This event is co-hosted by NYC Parks GreenThumb. We are proud to be the nation’s largest urban community gardening program, sustaining over 550 gardens throughout New York City. GreenThumb community gardens are organized, led, and cared for by dedicated volunteer gardeners who critically upkeep them as public green spaces. With GreenThumb’s support, community gardens are centers of environmental justice, ensuring that our city is fairer, safer, and greener for all. GreenThumb’s events are free and open to the public.
