Volunteer Workday: Sparrow's Nest Community Garden

GreenThumb community gardens are developed, led, and cared for by dedicated volunteer gardeners who critically upkeep them as public green spaces.

With support from Queens Community Board 4, what use to be an old outdoor gym was transformed into a large community garden now called Sparrow's Nest Community Garden. This garden is in the process of redesigning the space to better suit community needs and seeking new volunteers to become garden members! We invite all community members to participate in this volunteer workday, learn how GreenThumb gardens operate, and become involved with this vital greenspace.

Volunteers will participate in various hands-on tasks, such as reorganizing the greenhouse, starting seeds, and building raised beds. No experience is necessary, and everyone is welcome! Please wear comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing and bring water and snacks. Some tasks may involve lifting heavy materials and extended periods of bending, squatting, and moving.

In case of inclement weather, the event will be rescheduled to Saturday, March 7, 11 A.M.-2 P.M. Registered volunteers will be notified 1-2 days before the scheduled event.
